The Swift Current Broncos will play their first home game in three weeks tonight when they host the Prince Albert Raiders. 

The Broncos last played at InnovationPlex on January 20, when they beat Connor Bedard and the Regina Pats 4-2. Since then, Swift Current has won just two of their last seven road games, including going 1-for-5 on their recent US road swing. 

Tonight’s game starts at 7:00pm and you can hear it on the Eagle 94.1 FM with Living Sky Casino Broncos Hockey starting at 6:30pm. 

Winnipeg edged Calgary 7-6 in the only WHL game last night. Tonight's action includes Saskatoon visiting Kamloops, Lethbridge hosting Medicine Hat, Edmonton visiting Brandon and Red Deer travelling to Seattle.

In the NHL, Elias Pettersson scored twice and Anthony Beauvilier scored the game winner against his former team as the Vancouver Canucks edged the New York Islanders 6-5. Beauvilier was traded from the Isles to Vancouver in the Bo Horvat deal last week. Horvat also scored for the Islanders. 

Elsewhere, James van Riemsdyk scored the shootout winner as Philadelphia beat Edmonton 2-1 and Filip Zadina scored the go-ahead goal late in the third period as Detroit beat Calgary 2-1. Toronto visits Columbus as part of tonight's four-game schedule.

U18 Wildcats win in Dodsland, U15 Broncos win at home

The Full Line Ag U18 AA Wildcats picked up a 3-1 road win over the Western Prairie Thunder Thursday night in Dodsland. Chloe Wills scored twice and Janay Reich added another goal for the Wildcats, who visit Regina in their next game on Tuesday.

Porter Nickason scored two goals and an assist as the Pure Chem U15 AA Broncos beat Weyburn 5-1 at S-3 Arenas last night. Kasey Gliem scored a pair of goals and Chase Petersen added two assists while Mason Fauser had a goal and a helper. Cole Fox made 17 saves for the Broncos, who host the Regina Monarchs Saturday at 7:45pm from S3 Arenas. 

Also, the Graphic Edge U15 Wildcats skated to a 3-3 tie in Regina with Stevie Christiaens scoring two goals for Swift Current and Dior Stringer adding another goal. The U15 Wildcats return to action next weekend.

This weekend's minor hockey slate includes the Home Hardware U18 AAA Legionnaires hosting the Saskatoon Contacts Saturday at 8:00pm and Sunday at 1:45pm from InnovationPlex and the Source for Sports U18 AA Broncos visiting the Notre Dame Argos on Saturday and the Regina Capital on Sunday. The SWT U13 Broncos have road games in Regina, Estevan and Weyburn this weekend, and the WW Smith U13 Wildcats visit the North West Sharks tonight and Warman Wildcats tomorrow.

Thibault and Team Kesslering wrap up round robin at U18 Nationals

Swift Current’s Aryn Thibault and the Cara Kesslering rink wrapped up round robin at the Canadian Under-18 Curling Championship with an 8-4 loss to Saskatoon’s Savanna Taylor on Thursday. 

The team’s 1-4 record put them in the ranking round, where Kesslering beat Kali Skauge of the Northwest Territories 8-5 in the opening game Thursday night. They’ll play their last game of the event against Northern Ontario Saturday morning.

Raptors host Jazz after anticlimactic trade deadline

The Toronto Raptors continue their homestand when they welcome the Utah Jazz tonight, a day after they were mostly silent on the NBA's trade deadline.

Despite rumours that the Raptors would trade core players including Pascal Siakam, Fred VanVleet and OG Anunoby and essentially start a rebuild, the team were buyers, instead, adding Jakob Poetl from the San Antonio Spurs in a deal on Wednesday night. Poetl was a first-round pick for the Raptors in 2016 and was sent to San Antonio in the trade that brought Kawhi Leonard to Toronto ahead of their championship season.

Mahomes named NFL's MVP ahead of Super Bowl

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was named the NFL's Most Valuable Player as the league handed out their player awards Thursday night ahead of this weekend's Super Bowl.

The 27-year-old led the NFL with 5,250 yards and 41 touchdowns, with Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts finishing a distant second in the voting. Mahomes and Hurts will square off in Sunday's big game at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

Rush visit Roughnecks at Saddledome

The NLL's battle of the prairies will be renewed tonight as the Saskatchewan Rush pay a visit to the Calgary Roughnecks at Scotiabank Saddledome. The Rush sit in a tie for second in the Western Division standings and are coming off a 14-8 win over Vancouver last week.
