Local college students will have their welding masterpieces up for display and auction to support their school and future education.

Great Plains College in Swift Current will host the Carhartts & Caviar Welding Showcase & Auction on Thursday, March 7.

Nearly 300 people from the southwest area are expected to attend the 12th annual event presented by S3 Group Ltd.

Dianne Sletten, interim donor services coordinator with Great Plains College, is excited to be running the event this year.

"It was something that was started 12 years ago just as an idea to have the students involved in making different art pieces in the welding program," said Sletten.

Proceeds from the event will help support the welding program at Great Plains and their scholarship funds.

"Art pieces have been made by the students and the welding instructor as well as four alumni that have made pieces for this year and some other businesses also contribute pieces usually every year," Sletten said. "We've got 10 things that we're auctioning off this year."

The college doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the event running from 7:00 - 11:30 p.m. and live auction at 8:00 p.m.

"When we say Carhartts and Caviar, yes, you do get to try some caviar," said Sletten.

Early bird tickets could be purchased at $60 and regular tickets were sold at $70. Carhartts and Caviar are already sold out of tickets, although there is a waitlist in case of any cancellations.
