It might be an early Christmas present for motorists across the southwest as gas prices aren't expected to rise during the holiday festivities.

That's according to Senior Petroleum analyst with GasBuddy Dan McTeague whose predicting prices to stay put.

"I think prices are going to be pretty much where they're now, maybe a little lower," he said. "You might get the odd gas station pushing gasoline up for a day or so just to recover some of their lost retail margins. Generally speaking, the market is pretty weak."

Right now in Swift Current gas is selling on average for $1.02 per litre almost $0.05 cheaper than the national average which sits at $1.06 per litre.

"I don't see anything really between now and the end of the year, that to say in the next two weeks that would see prices moving back up, what you see is pretty much what you're going to get," McTeague said. "Which is about a penny or two cheaper than it was this time last year for Christmas."

McTeague added he doesn't see anything to start the New Year that would affect gas prices either, but did note on April 1 gas prices will rise almost $0.05 per litre due to the carbon tax being implemented on gasoline.
