Swift Current city council has approved the purchase of a new aerial bucket truck for the City's Light and Power Department.

The piece of equipment was agreed to be bought at Friday afternoon's council meeting for just under $150,200 - slightly above the budgeted amount of $150,000.

The City chose the lowest price submitted out of three proposals which included an Altec AT37G Aerial Bucket Truck on a 2018 Ford 550 4x4 Chassis from Winnipeg's Altec Industries Ltd.

The City's current truck is Ford/Altec truck from 2006 and will be sold off through their surplus equipment sale in the springtime.

"They put bids in on the larger equipment items," Kathy Hopfner, general manager of corporate services with the City of Swift Current, told council. "It will be a bidding process for the aerial truck."
