The City of Swift Current committed almost half a million dollars to buy half a dozen trucks earlier this week.

City council unanimously approved spending about $468,000 on the six vehicles at Monday night's bi-weekly meeting.

Three of the trucks will be used by Infrastructure & Operations, two by Light & Power, and one for the Parks department.

"Units range from regular cab 4x4 trucks to one-ton 4x4 trucks with flat decks or service bodies," Swift Current's General Manager of Infrastructure Greg Parsons said.

The six trucks will all come from Cypress Motors of Swift Current following bids taken through invitation by the City.

"(They were) the only ones to bid on all six units and had the best pricing of the selected vehicles," he told city council.

Parsons said while the trucks are being purchased in one lump sum, they were all budgeted separately with each of them coming in under budget. Five were budgeted for in the 2024 City budget and one in the 2023 budget.

"(That) was one of the mandates council gave us was to put that as a package to tender it out to potentially get some better pricing," he said. "Buying in bulk, so instead of buying one truck you buy six trucks."
