A standout for the Swift Current Comp. Colts has committed to the Canadian Junior Football League's Regina Thunder.

Parker Robertson inked his CJFL deal on Saturday during the league's national signing day.

The offensive lineman drew some interest from a few schools to play at the next level including the University of Saskatchewan, but he ultimately picked the Thunder.

"It's a really good team, I think there's a really good shot for us to win a national championship this year," he said. "(It will be nice) being on a good winning team. The whole team (staff) and guys are really nice."

Last fall the Thunder invited him out as part of the recruiting process to watch some of their games and that gesture went a long way in helping Robertson make his decision.

Robertson has about a month and a half to prepare for the team's main camp that opens in the middle of July and could determine how often he's on the field this season.

"In spring camp I was on the first line for my team because we split it up into two teams," he said. "I'll work as hard as I can and try and dress for all the games."

Regina opens the season on the road on August 11 when they visit Winnipeg to play the Rifles.

He'll enroll at the University of Regina for kinesiology and aims to become a physiologist.

"Over a couple of injuries, I've had through my career, I've been interested when I've been at the hospital how bones break and how my body moves," he said.
