It's a 2019 season that may have ended one win short of a league championship and spot in the provincial final, but Swift Current Comp Colts football still had plenty of regular-season accolades come their way to close a strong campaign.

The 3A 12-man Rural Football League awards were presented after this past Saturday's league final game in Yorkton, and a pile were earned by a trio of Colts.

Rhett Vavra

League Scoring Co-Leader

It was a late push that secured the honour for Vavra. Heading into the final week of the regular season, Vavra trailed Moose Jaw Central's Ryan Vincent by 30 points (48 to 78). Vincent managed a touchdown in Central's finale against Yorkton to finish at 84. Vavra, meanwhile, torched the Estevan Elecs for six total touchdowns to finish in a tie with 84 points as well.

League Receiving Leader

The play-making slot receiver piled up 515 yards on 26 receptions over six regular-season games.

League MVP

Vavra was somewhat of an obvious choice for the honour, as voted on by the coaches around the league, As noted, he led the league in receiving and scoring, and also added an impressive 436 yards rushing on just 23 carries. Vavra's big play ability equaled out to 19.4 yards per play on those 49 combined touches. He added multiple touchdowns on special teams as well - a solid feat, given opposing teams' game plans consisted of kicking or punting it away from #11.

Ethan Kurtz

Colts' Defensive Player of the Year

The grade 12 safety/linebacker helped lead the Colts' defence to a stellar mark of 17.3 points-per-game in the regular season, which included two shutouts.

League Punting Leader

Kurtz only held punting duties in the early stages of the season, before fellow grade 12 Austin Klimm took over. During that stretch though, Kurtz booted the ball 16 times for 466 yards for a league-best 29.1 yards-per-punt.

League Interception Co-Leader

Patrolling the secondary, Kurtz tied with Moose Jaw Central's Jake McLean for the league lead with three picks in the regular season.

Carter Moberg

League Passing Yardage Leader

Moberg's first full season as the Colts' pivot saw the grade 11 air out the ball 133 times. Completing 65 of those passes, Moberg took the passing title with 1037 yards in six games. He trailed Yorkton's Connor Watrych by just 15 yards heading into the last week of the season. Moberg leapfrogged the Raiders' QB in the last week with a 267-yard performance against the Estevan Elecs.

The last stage of the Colts' 2019 season is around the corner. Their year-end team awards banquet is set for November 13 at SCCHS.
