Don't worry too much if you see smoke north of Swift Current.

An ongoing controlled burn is occurring at a private property, off to the west side of Highway Four.

Rick Heard and his son Brandon logged the burn with the authorities after Rick had spotted the build-up of tumbleweeds along the fence line.

Zoomed in shot of the fenceA closer look at the burn site.

"I spayed this the other day with the airplane, and I saw all the thistles that were just piled up," said Heard. "That's a fire hazard, so a nice calm day like this, we phoned up the fire center and told them we were going to have a controlled burn, and they said, yeah. It's between 10 o'clock a.m. and 5 o'clock p.m.."

If you see smoke to the north today, you should still call 911 and report it. The emergency dispatch will be able to determine whether or not it's the controlled burn taking place or a separate fire.
