Swift Current developments are making some headway in the new year.

Perhaps it's the warm weather or the fresh start of another year, but things are looking good for a pair of apartment developments in the city.

The first unit, located in Springs Valley, has already begun moving some earth to get ready for its proposed 81-unit, four-story accommodations.

The second is getting underway in the Sask Valley is currently only equipped with a development permit. It will need to clear some other hurdles before more work can begin but is proceeding at a good pace toward more work getting started.

Denise Wall, the business development and tourism officer for the City of Swift Current, is thrilled to see both of these endeavours making their mark in Swift Current.

"The City is very excited to see some development happen," said Wall. "We're hoping that seeing that start, it'll spur some interest in other developers."

The first development in Springs Valley is being run by Gary Brar. It is going to be a four-story structure, with no time frame in place for completion available to the public.

The second project in Sask Valley will be three-stories and is headed up by Cypress Professional Centre of Medicine Hat. They are approved for two structurtes, but are starting with this one before getting into their second set of plans.

These new apartments will be opening up more living space in the city. For Swift Current, the ability to accept more residents as housing becomes more available means having a bigger draw for potential businesses with a larger hiring pool to pool from. The potential for additional economic growth is always welcome in the city.
