Andrew Fyten had quite a day at the office against his old team.

The former Swift Current forward scored twice and had two assists in leading the Oil Kings to an 11-1 win over the Broncos playing during the day for a special "Hockey Plays Hockey" game in Edmonton.

Edmonton hosted thousands of school kids from the area during a special game during the day to accommodate a field trip for the students.

Despite an 11am start, the Broncos were able to jump ahead of the WHL Central Division leading Oil Kings. Tanner Nagel scored on a Joona Kiviniemi rebound for his 12th of the season and a 1-0 edge early in the first period.

That's where the fun ended for Swift Current as the Oil Kings scored four times in the first and cruised the rest of the way to their dominant victory.

The Broncos pulled Isaac Poutler from the game after Edmonton's third goal, but returned him to the net midway through the 2nd period when the Oil Kings went up 6-1 and shortly after Riley Lamb was hit in the mask by a a Conner McDonald slap shot.

Swift Current's penalty kill struggled allowing three Edmonton power play goals on five opportunities. The usually strong PK has stumbled lately allowing nine goals in their last three games.

Fyten's two goals accounted for only his second career multi-goal game. The first was his final game with the Broncos back on December 12th against the Regina Pats.

Ben King took the pre-game skate for the Broncos but did not yet return from injury.

15-year-old defenceman Devin Aubin made his debut for Swift Current as an affiliate player. The Broncos recently signed Aubin after acquiring him in their deal that sent Noah King to Spokane.

The Broncos will get another early start tomorrow when they visit Calgary for another day game in front of young students.

Our broadcast gets started at 11:30am with the pre-game show for Robertson Family Group Broncos Hockey on The Eagle 94.1 FM.
