Today, Inside Out for Autism is asking people in the southwest to support autism by wearing their shirts inside out.

Thousands of schools and many local southwest businesses are participating, raising funds for those living with autism and their families.

Arden Fiala is the President of SaskFEAT and the Sask representative for Autism Canada. She says the day helps people understand what it's like for those with autism.

"Wearing your shirt inside out also brings awareness to autism and the sensory processing difficulties that shirt tags and seams have, they can be uncomfortable when they cannot be removed, and that's why the shirts are turned inside and out," she said. "Sensory issues are one of the many part and parcel that go with autism, and that's why it was a mom that started this, just as an awareness campaign."

Fiala says 80% of funds raised in SK benefit our province, and those living with autism and their families. She adds that all money received goes "right to the front line," straight to the kids and families with autism.

"We decided as Autism Canada to bring it across the country," she said. "By wearing your shirt inside out it shows that you're OK with being different, and to embrace what makes you as an individual, unique."
