There's been a new appointment made at Swift Current City Hall.

After trying them on for a while, Jim Jones will be filling in the boots full-time as the new Chief Administrative Officer for the City of Swift Current.

Jones served as the interim CAO for nearly two months after Tim Marcus retired from the role. For Jones, the time spent as the interim CAO has left him feeling confident in his ability to perform the associated duties.

"I think over the next little while, we'll be building a general managers team that I think will be very good, and I look forward to it," said Jones. "I love living in Swift Current. I love the events we have here and the people we serve, so I'm really looking forward to it."

Jones is originally from Conquest, Saskatchewan, having strong local roots. He even began his civic career in Kyle, Saskatchewan, serving as the recreation director for the town in 1984.

When the opportunity to work with the City of Swift Current after having been in Alberta, the choice to return to southwest Saskatchewan was easy.

"I knew the area, that it's beautiful," said Jones. "The lakes, the green space that we have here. So when the opportunity came up, it wasn't a hard decision for our family to move here."

Jones plans to be the kind of leader that lets people do their jobs without much interference from him.

"I basically see myself as an enabler," offered Jones. "I let people do the job that they were hired to do, and at the end of the day, if there's something that's coming up that it doesn't seem right or whatever, then we'll tag team and see how we can move it to the next level. I'm a huge proponent of letting people do what they do well. That's what you'll probably see from me."
