The Swift Current Home Hardware U18 AAA Legionnaires will be spending the holiday break in Calgary after being selected to compete in the prestigious Circle K Classic, formerly known as the Mac's Tournament.

The 32 teams competing in the event were announced today and consist of the top teams in and around Calgary and from AAA leagues in Alberta, BC and Saskatchewan and the Canadian Sports School Hockey League, as well as selected teams from Eastern Canada, the US and Europe.

The Legionnaires will be competing at the tournament for the fourth time since 2017, earning a spot with a 12-3-0-1 record after 16 league games this season. Joining Swift Current from the SMAAAHL are the Saskatoon Blazers, Saskatoon Contacts and Regina Pat Canadians.

The Circle K Classic/Mac's Tournament was first held in 1978, and the 2022 edition will be the first full-scale tournament since 2019. The 2020 event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and a scaled-back 2021 edition was moved from December to April of this year. Organizers also announced a name change for the event as its longtime title sponsor, the Mac's convenience store chain, is now operating under the Circle K brand.

The pools and schedule for the Circle K Classic will be announced on December 7 with the tournament taking place December 27 to January 1 at the Max Bell Centre in Calgary and the Seven Chiefs Sportsplex & Jim Starlight Centre on the Tsuut'ina Nation in Treaty 7 territory.

The Legionnaires host the Moose Jaw WINMAR Warriors in their next game Tuesday night at 8:00pm from InnovationPlex.
