Effective today as of 11 a.m., and until further notice, the Town of Maple Creek has issued a precautionary advisory.

According to a release from the Water Security Agency (WSA), the enforcement is due to a disinfection component failure resulting in a lack of primary disinfection.

Folks who use Maple Creek's water distribution system are urged to:

  • boil water used for drinking purposes for at least one minute
  • boil water for other uses where it might be ingested, such as brushing teeth, washing foods, or making ice
  • boil water for washing dishes, or sanitize dishes (one tablespoon of bleach per gallon of water)
  • not drink from any public fountains
  • ensure that young children are sponge-bathed (adults, adolescents and older children can use the water to bathe, but should avoid swallowing)
  • use an alternative water source known to be safe if they don't want to boil
  • consult with your family doctor if they have cuts or rashes that are severe, before using the water

Tap water can be used for most other instances around the house, such as laundry.
