Mike McEwen is headed to his ninth Brier, this time for Saskatchewan after capturing the SaskTel Tankard provincial men’s curling championship in Saskatoon. 

McEwen jumped out to a 5-0 lead over Rylan Kleiter after three ends and never looked back in a 7-3 victory in Sunday’s final to cap off an unbeaten run at the event. McEwen, Colton Flasch and Kevin and Daniel Marsh will be Team Saskatchewan at next month’s Montana’s Brier in Regina.

Skylar Ackerman and her Saskatoon rink will start play at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Calgary next week.

Light weekend for minor hockey

Carter Moen and Juris Busse each scored twice as the Pure Chem U15 AA Broncos beat Prince Albert 7-3 in their only game of the weekend on Sunday at S3 Arenas. Kyler Duclos, Kasey Gleim and Jaxson Squires also scored for Swift Current.

Meanwhile, Ginger Paulhus scored twice and Tenley Checkley had the game-winner as the WW Smith U18 Wildcats beat the Saskatoon Comet Fury 4-3 Sunday morning at S3 Arenas. Brooklyn Biensch also scored for the Wildcats in the victory.

Also, the Kyle Elks opened Senior C Provincials with a 5-4 overtime win over the Grenfell Spitfires on the road on Saturday. The Elks will host game two of the best-of-three series on Saturday at 5:00pm with game three, if needed, on Sunday at 2:30pm in Kyle.

The Elks also beat the Eston Ramblers 8-1 to open a best-of-three SVHL second-round playoff series on Friday. Game two is on Thursday in Eston.

Thunder rally to beat Raptors in double OT

Canadian Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 23 points as the Oklahoma City Thunder rallied from a 23-point deficit to beat the Toronto Raptors 135-127 in double overtime. Fellow Canadian RJ Barrett had 23 points for the Raptors, who have lost two straight games.

Rush beat Panther City for second win of NLL season

Mike Triolo scored the winner with 4:41 left as the Saskatchewan Rush beat Panther City 10-9 on Saturday night in Saskatoon. Robert Church scored four goals and eight points for the Rush (2-4), who head to Vancouver for their next game on Saturday.
