Former Swift Current Broncos defenceman Mitch Love has been announced as an assistant coach for the Washington Capitals.

Love played two seasons with the Broncos and holds the team’s single-season penalty minutes record with 327, including 40 fighting majors, set in 2002-03.

Following four seasons of junior hockey and six years playing professionally, Love spent seven seasons as an assistant coach with the Everett Silvertips and was the Saskatoon Blades’ head coach for three seasons before coaching the AHL’s Stockton Heat and Calgary Wranglers. Love was named the AHL's coach of the year with Stockton in 2021-22 before leading the Wranglers to the league's best regular season record in its first season in Calgary in 2022-23.
