Leone Iris Newton passed away March 13, 2023 at the age of 100 years.

Mom was born on December 16, 1922 on a farm northwest of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan in the community of Archydal.  She went to school there and later, from 1942 to 1945, she trained at the Moose Jaw General Hospital to become a registered nurse.  She then accepted a position at the Swift Current Union Hospital.

She enjoyed attending local and country dances with friends and that is how she met Dad.  A new phase in her life began with their marriage in 1946.  They lived on the farm just south of Swift Current for one year before moving permanently into town.

Dad and Mom enjoyed many wonderful trips together to Hawaii, California, Bahamas, and Florida.  Travelling to Copenhagen with the Old Time Hockey team was a special highlight.  She also had many fun trips with special friends.

Mom had many interests.  She belonged to a local ladies investment club for 40 years, was a Life Member of the Swift Current Ladies Curling Club and also a member of the Elmwood Golf Club.  She loved playing bridge, reading, listening to music, and produced many beautiful needlework pictures.  Watching her grandchildren's and great grandchildren's many activities was an important part of her life.

Mom was predeceased by an infant daughter, husband Robert (1992); her dad Robert Getty (1986); mother Olina Getty (1988); sisters: Margery (1959), and Roberta (1989); brother Archey (2011); nieces, in-laws, and many friends.

She is survived by son Ken Newton (Christine); daughter Janice Newton Brown (Wayne); grandsons: Jason Newton (Siea), Curtis Newton (Michelle), Darren Newton, Jordan Brown (Shavaun); granddaughter Kendel Reich (Jeffry); along with great grandchildren: Declan and Camden Newton, Reid and Julia Newton, Kael and Evynn Reich, and Max Brown.  She is also survived by sister-in-law Eleanor Getty and several nieces and nephews.

Mom's wisdom and positive outlook on life made her a perfect role model for our entire family.  She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.

At Mom's request there will be no formal funeral.  A family gathering will be held at a later date.  Donations to the Salvation Army, Swift Current, or the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Regina, would be appreciated by the family.
