The town of Gull Lake is in the final stages of updating its community plan for the first time in over a decade.

The current community plan for around 1,000 residents was last adopted in 2007 and the town is hoping a new one will help the community grow.

Gull Lake Mayor Blake Campbell said within the community plan the town is hoping to reach a population of 1,300 people by 2040.

"We've taken some steps to help meet the goals or the vision statement within the community plan," he said. "We have an economic development committee right now that's actively involved, they're doing great things. We are definitely seeing some housing moving."

A former Saskatoon company McElhanney helped Gull Lake with the 28-page community plan that includes municipal goals, zoning bylaws, uses within zoning, and development permit information.

"I think it's a good plan, I think it's definitely forward-thinking, I think it's looking into the future," he said. "It's definitely going to help us to direct our goals towards fulfilling our vision statement within the plan."

The next step for the community plan is a public hearing that's scheduled at the Elks Hall on October 14 for the public to share their thoughts on the new-look plan.
