Agriculture Month is an opportunity to recognize the contributions of the agriculture industry and the dedicated individuals involved in producing our food.

Farm & Food Care Saskatchewan's Executive Director Clinton Monchuk says the disconnect between those who consume Canadian food and those who grow it -  is widening.

"We can see this every five years when they do the census. We see a larger migration into urban settings. We see fewer farms, fewer farmers, and we see a larger responsibility for farms to adapt new technologies to produce high quality, abundant, safe food."

The Farm and Food Care team has developed a national online engagement strategy called "Canadian Food Focus" to reach those who are curious about food and how it's grown.

Monchuk says last month they engaged with just over one million individuals mainly in urban areas.

Overall, he says we have lots to be thankful for here in Saskatchewan.

"We have the most arable land in Canada. We have top-notch research facilities, and we have cutting-edge food processing, right here at the food center. This year, Agriculture Month will focus on the achievements within food and farming not only of the past but looking forward into the future."

Monchuks farms with his family outside of Lanigan, and notes that all of the technology and innovations developed and being developed in Saskatchewan continue to make farmers more sustainable.
