A Swift Current pet store is inviting the community to join them in a fundraising walk this weekend for the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides.

Local Pet Valu store manager Raven King is excited to bring the Pet Valu Walk for Guide Dogs to the city for the very first time.

“As a collective, with all of the walks we try to walk the length of Canada,” she explained. “

The walk will begin at noon on Sunday from the store and wrap up at the same spot, with tons of fun waiting for everyone who joined in. From face painting to pup-cicles, there will be something sweet for every family member (two-legged, or four-legged), to enjoy.

Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides provides individuals living with disabilities a Dog Guide at no cost. With no government funding, and each Guide Dog costing the organization $35,000 to train and place, they rely heavily on Pet Valu walks for fundraising.

Swift Current’s family friendly walk is set to be roughly 40 minutes, with a refreshment stop at the halfway point, and is free to join. Donation opportunities will be available upon arriving back at the store after the walk. Urban Ground Coffeehouse has generously hopped on board to help sponsor the event.

“I'm really excited especially as a new manager, to get this here and finally do something like this for the community,” King said.
