The Trans-Canada Highway east of Swift Current was a more straightforward fix than expected.

Crews were expected to work throughout the week on the bridge in the westbound lane of Highway One, leading to single-lane traffic and causing delays.

Fortunately, they have managed to wrap up the work being done days in advance.

Steve Shaheen, a senior communications consultant for the Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways, is happy to confirm that crews have finished up so fast.

"It's always good news when they finish ahead of schedule," said Shaheen. "The work has been completed on the deck, so traffic is back to normal."

There might be more work underneath the bridge, but the impact on traffic should be minimal.

As to how they managed to speed up progress so much, it's apparently just a good stroke of luck and circumstance.

"It's difficult to say with these types of projects," said Shaheen. "We allow for a little bit of leeway [in the schedule] in case there's some issues they need to deal with, but in this case, they managed to make good progress and finish ahead of schedule."

Traffic should be able to go undisturbed, with no other work expected to take place any time soon on the Trans-Canada Highway.
