Thanks to the generosity of Swift Current residents the Swift Current Salvation Army was again able to surpass their goal for their Christmas Campaign.

A total of $231,775 was raised in the annual Christmas Campaign and surpassed their goal of $215,000.

Major Don Grad said that he is very excited to see what this year's fund can do for the Salvation Army.

"We have a couple of wish list items that this will certainly help with," he said. "One is a commercial food processor for our kitchen; the other is dishes for our new dishwasher. We had planned to purchase them somehow, and these funds will help nicely. The funds will also give us a little more flexibility with funding for making sure we have the right staff hours to help with the food bank."

The Salvation Army also provided 284 Christmas hampers to 229 adults and 258 children and youth totalling to about 30,000 pounds food.

Grad said that they had about 160 guests, along with over 50 volunteers at the Christmas Day Community Dinner.

Grad added how the support the received this year, was just wonderful.

"We are very appreciative of the community support we have received," he said. "We want to say thanks to the community, the individuals, businesses that have all been apart of helping make this year's Christmas Campaign happen."
