Saskatchewan's U16 Male hockey team, with four players from the Home Hardware Legionnaires on the roster, fell to Ontario 3-2 in double overtime in Saturday's gold medal game at the Canada Winter Games in Prince Edward Island.

Kash Andresen and Cole Reschny scored to give Saskatchewan a 2-0 lead after 40 minutes, but Ontario tied it back up at 2-2 after two quick goals from Ryan Roobroreck and Quinn Beauschesne. The teams played almost 28 minutes of three-on-three sudden death hockey before Matthew Schafer scored the golden goal for Ontario at 7:59 of the second overtime frame.

Cam and Cole Perlinger, Parker Rondeau and Berney Weston will bring silver medals back to the southwest in Saskatchewan's best finish in men's hockey at the Canada Games since the team won gold in 1995. The second-place finish brought Saskatchewan's medal total to 17 (three gold, seven silver, and seven bronze) at the midway mark of the two-week event.

Caitlyn Perlinger, Sadie Keller, Paige Fischer, Ella Wingert and Jerzey Watteyne of the Innovation Credit Union Wildcats will play for Saskatchewan in the female hockey tournament with their opening game against British Columbia on Monday.
