During Road Safety Week from May 12-18, the Saskatchewan RCMP handed out quite a few tickets and warnings. 

Officers had over 7,300 interactions with motorists across the province. Of those interactions, nearly 4,800 resulted in enforcement action, such as tickets or Criminal Code charges. Another 1,774 warnings were handed out. 

The offences which were ticketed varied across the spectrum. They included:

  • 76 Criminal Code charges for impaired driving;
  • 37 license suspensions for low impairment;
  • 1,387 tickets for speeding;
  • 11 unsafe passing tickets; and,
  • 97 tickets related to intersections, for offences such as failing to stop or yield, or proceeding before safe to do so. 

When it comes to cellphone use, there were 74 tickets handed out in the seven-day period, along with 14 tickets for driving with undue care and attention.

There were another 130 tickets issued by the RCMP over the time frame for seat belt offenses or car seat misuse. 

There were 139 drivers ticketed for driving while prohibited, and 160 vehicle inspection notices handed out.

There were 105 Criminal Code charges that weren’t related to impaired driving or driving while prohibited, and 684 other traffic-related charges handed out during Road Safety Week.
