A flock of current and former Swift Current Minor Football players flew to Florida last week and some of them emerged from the North American Youth Football Classic with some hardware.

The local program sent 23 players across six age categories to play for the Saskatchewan Selects team, which was one of three Canadian representatives down south.

Eight locals helped their respective teams capture their division's championship.

Defensive back Zach Lake and coach Tyson Congdon captured the 11U title.

Defensive back Jamie Robertson, defensive lineman Cole Allen, and linebacker Cade Napper won the 13U trophy.

Defensive lineman Ashton Peebels, linebacker Jackson Gording-Dovell, running back Jake Woods, and offensive lineman Chase Auseth hoisted the 14U championship.

One local player was a part of the Selects squads at the 10U, 11U, and 12U levels. Three more in the 13U division, four in the 14U, and 13 in varsity (high school players from Swift Current, Gull Lake, and Shaunavon).
