The Swift Current Municipal General Investigations Section, Saskatchewan RCMP Incident Program, Swift Current RCMP Traffic Services Unit, Swift Current Police Dog Services, and the Swift Current RCMP Saskatchewan Trafficking Response Team executed a search warrant on May 31, at a residence located on the 200 block of 7th Avenue Northwest.

The search was carried out in relation to an ongoing illegal firearms possession investigation.

Upon arriving on the scene, officers arrested an adult male outside of the residence without incident.

The 29-year-old male from Swift Current is now facing a handful of charges such as possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of ammunition while prohibited, and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

The male is scheduled to make his first appearance in Swift Current court tomorrow.

At this time there is no information on the second individual that was arrested at the scene. The investigation is still ongoing.

In a video submitted to Swift Current Online, it appeared that an officer was discharging his weapon into the residence.

Saskatchewan RCMP Media Relations Officer, Jessica Murphy, reiterated that a firearm was not discharged during the incident as only suppression equipment was utilized.

“That was the use of a non-lethal tool, a flash bang to support safe entry into the residence and to ensure there was no risk to the occupants inside or any officers who were looking to search the residence,” she concluded.
