You’ll notice that weather forecasts often include a UV Index.

A UV Index is a measure of the sun’s ultra-violet radiation that hits the surface.

Today’s level is 8 or very high. Normally, when the Index reaches 6 or high, protection is needed for any outdoor activities.

If you are planning any outdoor activities, make sure you apply sunblock with an SPF of a minimum of 15 on a regular basis.

Anne-Marie Paul-Freeman of Environment Canada says that June and July are usually the months with the highest UV radiation.

The UV Index has been provided by Environment Canada since the early 1990’s.
