Residents from across the southwest and beyond braved the winter weather this weekend to attend the 55th annual Swift Current Hobby Craft and Gun Show.

The show which took place at the Stockade and Kinetic Park provided attendees with a wide assortment of antiques, crafts, coins and collectibles in addition to guns and ammo.

Organizer of the event Henry Banman provides some insight into the success of the show.

"Well, it's such a diversified show. When we started the show 55 times back, I made up my mind that it wasn't only going to be a gun show. It was going to be a hobby, craft and gun show. And that has boded us very well over the last 55 shows."

Banman adds that a lot of other shows everywhere else are now converting to what they have seen being done at the Swift Current show.

In addition, Banman says the event is beneficial for the city as a whole.

"We've got BC people here, we've got lots of Alberta people here, we've got Manitoba people here and they are from everywhere. And they keep coming back time after time. I don't know how many tens of millions of dollars this has brought to the city of Swift Current over the last 55 shows, but I know it's a lot."

According to Banman motels, hotels, restaurants and gas bars did well and a lot of money was dropped off in the city this weekend.
