Residents who frequent the intersection of 2nd Avenue Southeast and Gladtsone Street will be getting used to a big change in their route soon.

General manager of Infrastructure and Operations for the City of Swift Current, Greg Parsons, said that luckily the rain hasn't interrupted the work at all.

“It takes some time,” he said. “When you pour the concrete piles, you can't stand the structures up immediately after; you got to wait for the concrete to cure. It's just a process that we need to go through.”

The City’s Light and Power department started construction on May 13, and have since installed the controller and plan to stand the structure within a day.

Following that will be some minor sidewalk repairs and cleanup, with the hope of having the traffic lights fully operational by the next couple of weeks.
