The Abbey Curling Club and rink are reaching out to southwest residents for help.

Currently in the running to win $25,000 through the BASF Growing Home Competition, the organization needs voters to help them take home the prize.

President of the curling club, Jessica Smith, said the rink is a hub for activity in the area and offers programs throughout the winter months.

“The plant for our ice surface went down this winter in the middle of curling season," she said. “It's a pretty important facility for our community and the surrounding area.”

Local organizations and groups are nominated by producers, and BASF chooses its top three choices for Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario.

One winner from each province will receive the prize funds to better their organization, based on voting by the public.

“I think we were actually nominated by several people in our community,” said Smith. "That must have come into play ... people rallied together to nominate the curling club because it's a real need in our community.”
