For the Town of Shaunavon, the last twelve months were full of new beginnings and celebrations.

Mayor Kyle Bennet said some huge highlights for the community members were Boomtown Days and the Parade of Lights.

From a Town standpoint, being the first recipients of the province’s Impacted Sites Fund was tremendous.

“We take over these old properties, and you never know what you're going to find when you start knocking them down,” he said. “The Impacted Sites Fund was a pretty big boost to us because those can be a pretty big expense.”

Clearing the property for new development is still an ongoing process, with crews sampling and testing and trying to figure out what the best possible course of action is.

Looking ahead to what 2024 will bring, Bennet is excited to see how the Town’s Strategic Plan will guide them over the next twelve months.

“I think it's going to help Shaunavon with growth in the future,” he added. “And I think that is a big accomplishment and achievement; we haven't seen the fruits of it yet because it's an ongoing process, but I think it will set us up for success in the future.”
