More details from Sunday's grass fire south of Swift Current have emerged.

At 11 a.m. Sunday morning the Swift Current Fire Department were dispatched to the blaze that was located at the back of S3 Enterprises' property.

With the fire still burning as of 1 p.m., the winds increased to 25 km/hr gusting to 45 km/hr making the fire harder to control.

"It was a challenging fire because of the shifting winds," Earl Braun Assistant Deputy Chief of Operations with the Swift Current Fire Department said. "We were fighting the fire on one front and then the winds would shift. At one time we were fighting the at three difference places just because the wind was shifting every half an hour and pushing it different directions. It was definitely challenging with the terrain and the wind."

The Swift Current Fire Department were able to contain the flames by 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon but continued a fire watch throughout the evening to ensure there was no re-kindle.

"Dry conditions coupled with last years grass makes for good tinder," he added.

The Swift Current Fire Department is continuing their investigation into the cause of the fire.
