Christmas came a day early for The Family Resource Centre in Swift Current thanks to the hard work of one local business owner and the generosity of the community.

In the third year of the Holiday Fundraiser, put on by Allure Nail Salon & Boutique, over 850 items were dropped off to the local nonprofit on Christmas Eve.

Executive Director of the Family Resource Centre, Laura Beddome, said that they are blown away by the generosity of the community.

“We're really grateful for all of the thought and generosity that was contributed through that drive for items that could be utilized based on our wish list for during the winter season,” she stated.  “This community is so generous with getting behind supporting our local organizations and we're really, really grateful that Kaitlin with Allure thought of us and chose us to be the recipient this year. There are so many things that we'll be able to provide to families all throughout the winter months.”

Beddome added that donations like these allow the Family Resource Centre to offer a wider variety of services and programs to those in need within the community.

“An organization like ours does obviously receive some sustaining funds through both federal and provincial government sources, and we pursue a variety of other funding streams through grants and seeking sponsorships and different things throughout the year in order to offer the things that we do,” she elaborated.

“But of course, there are so many programs, services, and items that aren't covered by all of those funds, and so being able to be the recipient of donations, whether they be financial donations, gift cards, used items, or new items. All of those things are absolutely critical so that we can have the flexibility and the ability to contribute generously to the families that we work with and provide for some of the items that those families need throughout the year.”
