Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) issued a special air quality statement for the southwest just before 4 a.m. this morning.

Widespread wildfire smoke is expected to stay in the area tonight and tomorrow, as southerly flow will cause smoke to return to the region.

Swift Current's AQHI was calculated at a 7 at 5 a.m. this morning, posing high risk to the public.

Mild irritation and discomfort are common symptoms, and usually disappear when the smoke clears. Drinking lots of water can help the body cope.

Wildfire smoke can be harmful to everyone’s health even at low concentrations.
