In the April 8 COVID-19 update from The Saskatchewan Health Authority they are reporting a total of 205 new cases of the virus in the province.

Of those 205 new cases there are 4 in the Far North West zone, 1 in the Far North Central zone, 4 in the Far North East zone, 3 in the North West zone, 4 in the North Central zone, 5 in the North East zone, 32 in the Saskatoon zone, 1 in the Central West zone, 9 in the Central East zone, and 91 in the Regina zone.

There are currently 6 new cases in the South West zone, 21 in the South Central zone, and 23 in the South East zone.

There is 1 new case with pending residence information.

Three cases with pending residence information have been assigned to the Regina zone.

That brings the provincial total number of cases to 35,376, of which 2,141 are considered active.

There are currently 28 active cases in the South West zone - 8 in the South West subzone 1, and 20 in the South West subzone 2.

The seven-day average of daily new cases is 226 (18.5 new cases per 100,000 population).

There are 2 new deaths reported today. One death was reported in the 70-79 age group from the South East zone, and one death was reported in the 80+ age group from the Saskatoon zone.

That brings the provincial total number of deaths to 447.

There were 200 recoveries reported, bringing that provincial total to 32,788.

There are 206 people in hospital. One hundred and sixty-five people are receiving inpatient care - 2 in the Far North West zone, 1 in the Far North East zone, 9 in the North West zone, 3 in the North Central zone, 1 in the North East zone, 41 in the Saskatoon zone, 14 in the Central East zone, 82 in the Regina zone, 3 in the South Central zone, and 9 in the South East zone.

There are 41 people in intensive care - 4 in the North Central zone, 7 in the Saskatoon zone, 3 in the Central East zone, 25 in the Regina zone, and 2 in the South Central zone.

To date, there has been 693,601 COVID-19 tests processed in Saskatchewan.

And yesterday, there was 3,151 COVID-19 tests processed.

As of April 8, 2,948 variants of concern have been identified by screening in the province - 2 in the Far North West zone, 4 in the Far North East zone, 6 in the North West zone, 21 in the North Central zone, 189 in the Saskatoon  zone, 12 in the Central West zone, 64 in the Central East zone, and 2,107 in the Regina zone.

There are currently 18 variant of concern cases in the South West zone, 260 in the South Central zone, and 246 in the South East zone.

There are 19 cases with residence pending.

There are 0 new lineage results reported today. Of the 951 variants of concern with lineages identified by whole genome sequencing in the province, 943 are B.1.1.1.7(UK), and 8 are B.1.351 (SA).

The Regina zone accounts for 802 (or 84%) of the variant of concern cases with confirmed lineage reported in Saskatchewan.

Travel in not recommended in or out of the Regina area unless absolutely necessary. And residents should avoid all unnecessary travel to and from Moose Jaw and Weyburn.

The trends of COVID-19 cases in children and youth are being monitored.

The Weekly Monitoring Report for children and youth ages 0-19 years for the week of March 29 to April 4  states that there are 635 active cases in the province, 1 of which has pending residence information.

There are 12 active cases in the Far North  zone, 12 in the North East zone, 23 in the North West zone,25 in the North Central zone, 17 in the North East zone,2 in the Central West zone, 15 in the Central East zone, 75 in the Saskatoon zone, 329 in the Regina zone, 3 in the South West zone,63 in the South Central zone, and 52 in the South East zone.

An additional 10,437 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been given in Saskatchewan, bringing the total number of vaccines administered to 244,646. This is the highest daily doses administered to date.

Of the 10,437 doses, there were 207 in the South West zone.

All public health measures in the province have been extended until April  26 and will be reviewed then.
