In the May 4 COVID-19 update from The Saskatchewan Health Authority they are reporting a total of 189 new cases of the virus in the province.

Of those 189 new cases there are 7 in the Far North West zone, 27 in the North West zone, 6 in the North Central zone, 2 in the North East zone, 81 in the Saskatoon zone, 3 in the Central West zone, 10 in the Central East zone, and 24 in the Regina zone.

There are 8 new cases in the South West zone - 6 in the South West subzone 1, and 2 in the South West subzone 2.

There are 7 new cases in the South Central zone, and 8 in the South East zone.

There are 6 new cases with residence pending information.

Twenty-three cases with pending residence information have been assigned as follows - 1 to the Central East zone, 7 to the North West zone, 1 to the South Central zone, and 14 to the Regina zone.

That brings the provincial total number of cases to 42,006, of which 2,305 are considered active.

There are currently 77 active cases in the South West zone - 52 in the South West subzone 1, and 25 in the South West subzone 2.

The seven-day average of new COVID-19 cases is 226 (18.4 new cases per 100,000 population).

There are 291 recoveries reported, bringing that provincial total to 39,202.

Two new deaths were reported - 1 death was reported in the 70-79 age group from the Far North West zone, 1 death occurred in February but is being reported upon the completion of an investigation that determined the cause to be COVID-19.

One death with pending residence information has been deemed out of the province and removed from the counts.

There are 174 people in the hospital. One hundred and thirty-three people are receiving inpatient care - 1 in the Far North East zone, 7 in the North West zone, 3 in the North Central zone, 2 in the North East zone, 54 in the Saskatoon zone, 3 in the Central East zone, and 52 in the Regina zone.

There are 2 people receiving inpatient care in the South West zone, 4 in the South Central zone, and 5 in the South East zone.

There are 41 people in intensive care - 1 in the North Central zone, 14 in the Saskatoon zone, 2 in the Central East zone, 23 in the Regina zone, and 1 in the South Central zone.

To date, there has been 782,870 COVID-19 tests processed in Saskatchewan.

And yesterday, there were 2,515 COVID-19 tests processed.

As of May 3 there were 7,417 total variants of concern cases identified by screening in the province - 141 in the Far North West zone, 2 in the Far North East zone, 236 in the North West zone, 145 in the North Central zone, 28 in the North East zone, 867 in the Saskatoon zone, 87 in the Central West zone, 309 in the Central East zone, and 3,983 in the Regina zone.

There are 219 total variants of concern cases in the South West zone, 553 in the South Central zone, and 744 in the South East zone.

There are 103 screened variants of concern cases with residence pending.

There are no lineage results reported. Of the 2,522 variants of concern cases with lineages identified by whole genome sequencing, 2,491 are B.1.1.1.7 (UK), 22 are P.1 (Brazilian), and 9 are B.1.351 (SA).

The Regina zone accounts for 1,678 (or 67%) of the variants of concern cases with confirmed lineage reported in the province.

An additional 9,924 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been given in Saskatchewan, bringing the total number of vaccines administered to 460,747.

Of the 9,924 vaccine doses there were 459 administered in the South West zone.

Eighty-two percent of residents over 60 years of age have received their first dose.

Sixty-five percent of those 40 and over have received their first dose.

And 44% of those 18 and older have received their first dose.

Regina is scheduled to receive 200 doses of AstraZeneca from the U.S. today.
