In the May 6 COVID-19 update from The Saskatchewan Health Authority there are 156 new cases of the virus reported in the province.

Of those 156 new cases there is 1 in the Far North West zone, 1 in the Far North East zone, 11 in the North West zone, 31 in the North Central zone, 10 in the Saskatoon zone, 10 in the Central East zone, and 40 in the Regina zone.

There are 5 new cases in the South West zone - 4 in the South West subzone 1, and 1 in the South West subzone 2. 

There are 13 new cases in the South Central zone, and 22 in the South East zone.

There is 1 new case with pending residence information.

Three cases with pending residence information have been assigned as follows - 1 to the North West zone, and 2 to the North Central zone.

Seventeen cases tested out of the province were added as follows: 3 to the North West zone, 1 to the North Central zone, 2 to the Central East zone, 9 to the Saskatoon zone, 1 to the South West zone, and 1 to the South East zone.

That brings the provincial total number of cases to 42,376,  of which 2,158 are considered active.

There are currently 81 active cases in the South West zone - 60 in the South West subzone 1, and 21 in the South West subzone  2.

There are 265 recoveries reported, bringing that provincial total to 39,717.

There are no new deaths reported, leaving that provincial total at 501.

The seven-day average of daily new cases is 216 (17.6 new cases per 100,000 population).

There are 173 people in the hospital. One hundred and thirty-two people are receiving inpatient care - 1 in the Far North West zone, 1 in the Far North East zone, 8 in the North West zone, 4 in the North Central zone, 2 in the North East zone, 60 in the Saskatoon zone, 3 in the Central East zone, and 43 in the Regina zone.

There are 2 people receiving inpatient care in the South West zone, 3 in the South Central zone, and 5 in the South East zone.

There are 41 people in intensive care - 1 in the North Central zone, 14 in the Saskatoon zone, 2 in the Central East zone, 23 in the Regina zone, and 1 in the South Central zone.

To date, there has been 789,619 COVID-19 tests processed in Saskatchewan.

And yesterday there were 3,494 COVID-19 tests processed.

As of May 5, there were a total of 7,695 variants of concern cases identified by screening - 171 in the Far North West zone, 2 in the Far North East zone, 249 in the North West zone, 181 in the North Central zone, 32 in the North East zone, 906 in the Saskatoon zone, 87 in the Central West zone,328 in the Central East zone, and 4,047 in the Regina zone.

There were a total of 236 variants of concern in the South West zone, 564 in the South Central zone, and 775 in the South East zone.

There are 117 screened variants of concern with residence pending.

There are 39 new lineage results reported. Of the 3,004 variants of concern cases with lineages identified by whole genome sequencing, 2,962 are B.1.1.1.7 (UK), 33 are P.1 (Brazilian), and 9 are B.1.351 (SA).

The Regina zone accounts for 1,877 (or 62%) of the variants of concern cases with confirmed lineage reported in the province.

The Weekly Monitoring Report for Children and Youth aged 0-19 years is available.

For the week of April 26 to May 2 there were a total of 706 active cases in children and youth in the province. Of those 706 cases, there are 11 with location/residence information unavailable.

Breaking the numbers down - there were 42 active cases in the Far North West zone, 1 in the Far North East zone, 58 in the North West zone, 59 in the North Central zone, 13 in the North East zone, 16 in the Central West zone, 40 in the Central East zone, 132 in the Saskatoon zone, 267 in the Regina zone, 41 in the South Central zone, and 88 in the South East zone.

There were 42 active cases in children and youth in the South West zone -30 in the South West subzone 1, and 12 in the South West subzone 2.

Active outbreaks in south west schools for the week of April 21 to May 4 include - the Tompkins School (1 case), The Shaunavon Public School (1 case), The Gull Lake School (3 cases), Sydney Street School in Maple Creek (2 cases), Swift Current Comprehensive High School (2 cases), and The Eastend School (1 case).

An additional 10,195 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been given in Saskatchewan, bringing the total number of vaccines administered to 480,910.

Of those 10,195 vaccine doses given, there were 287 administered in the South West zone.

Eighty-two percent of residents over 60 years of age have received their first dose.

Sixty-seven percent of those 40 years and older have received their first vaccine dose.

And 46% of those 18 years and older have received their first dose.
