Spring is officially upon us, but it certainly feels different this time around as we continue to deal with the global COVID-19 pandemic and the health concerns surrounding it.

With Saskatchewan now under a state of emergency as a measure to help prevent the spread of the virus, we’ve been asked to stay in our homes unless it is absolutely necessary to go out, and many have been working from their homes. It can be very difficult to resist the urge to spend some time out of the house, especially for those who want to keep an active lifestyle.

Now that the weather is finally getting warmer, it’s a good time to tell you that unless you’ve been asked to self-isolate (in which case, you must stay at your home until health officials tell you it’s OK to leave), you can still take a walk outside and enjoy some fresh air. Not only will this help you keep fit, but a nice walk can also be good for your mental health, and that is especially important if you have any stress or anxiety right now.

Just remember, when you’re outside you still need to practice social distancing (stay at least 2 metres, or 6 feet, away from others), cough or sneeze into your elbow and take other precautions to protect yourself and others, just as you should when you’re inside. It’s a good idea, as well, to avoid using any playground structures even though they are still open currently and avoid places where there may be large crowds.

Also, if you walk along the Chinook Pathway in Swift Current you may see a few inspirational messages written on the path with sidewalk chalk.

If you are in self-isolation, it doesn’t mean you have to be cooped up inside all the time. Even if you spend some time on your deck, in your back yard or on your balcony, or have the windows open, it’s still a good way to enjoy the springtime weather without leaving your home.

How are you staying active, either at home or outside? Have you seen any inspiring messages on the pathway or elsewhere and have photos to share? Get in touch with us by emailing magic97@goldenwestradio.com, or reach out on Facebook or Twitter, and we’ll add them to the blog!

Don’t forget… we’re all in this together
