Despite holding the lead after forty minutes, the Home Hardware Midget 'AAA' Legionnaires were unable seal the deal in the third period Tuesday night.

Hosting the league-leading Regina Pat Canadians at the Credit Union iPlex, the Legionnaires carried a 2-1 lead into the final frame before Regina took control.

A three goal third period for the Pat Canadians, one of those being an empty-netter, proved to be too much for Swift Current as they ultimately fell 4-2.

The Legionnaires managed to hold leads after both the first and second periods of play.

Owen Ozar found the back of the net for the 6th time this season in the first period, which stood as the only goal of the frame.

Then after Regina tied the game 1-1 in the second, Hunter Lamb scored his 15th goal of the campaign to give the Legionnaires a 2-1 lead after two.

Even though the Pat Canadians entered the game with a record of 30-3-0-2, an upset appeared possible.

The Legionnaires had earned the position they put themselves in after two periods of play.

The shot totals were not lopsided, in fact, they were perfectly even.

Both teams had 10 shots in the first period, before each firing 8 shots in the second.

However, unfortunately for Swift Current, the third period was a completely different story.

The Pat Canadians came out and proved why they only have three regulation losses so far this season, taking the play to the hometown team.

Through much of the third period, Regina put the pressure on Swift Current, which all began with the Legionnaires taking a penalty early in the frame.

Just 12 seconds after Lamb was called for a trip, the puck was in the back of the Legionnaires net and the score was tied 2-2.

Then, despite Regina's best efforts to take their first lead of the game, Legionnaires goalie Cody Levesque was able to hold the fort down, until the late stages.

With just 2:41 left in regulation, the Pat Canadians took their first lead of the game, beating Levesque, who was then pulled just under two minutes later as Swift Current searched for the late equalizer.

The 6-on-5 advantage did not work out though as Regina found the empty net to go up 4-2 and put the game away.

In the end, Regina outshot Swift Current 11-2 in the final period.

Levesque finished the game stopping 25 of the 28 shots he faced while suffering the loss in net.

For Swift Current, they continue to be on the outside looking in for the playoff picture, but do only sit on point back of the 8th place Saskatoon Blazers.

Looking ahead, the Legionnaires will have a tremendous opportunity to get back in the win column on Friday.

They'll pay a visit to the 3-31-0-1 Notre Dame Argos, a squad they are 3-0 against the season.
