Next week, three Swift Current organizations are focusing their efforts on making a memorable night of culture and making connections.

With International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, the Southwest Newcomer Welcome Centre has partnered with the Southwest Multi-Cultural Association and Great Plains College Student's Association to host an event for the whole community.

The event will take place on March 21 from 5:30 - 8 p.m. in the Great Plains College in Swift Current gym.

Program manager at the Southwest Newcomer Welcome Centre, Viju Vijayan, is excited about the opportunity for people to connect and celebrate.

"We are hosting an event to commemorate the day of International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination," said Vijayan.

The evening will feature relatable speakers and an abundance of various multicultural foods with origins from different parts of the world.

"We will hear from panellists about their experience with racism and engage in meaningful conversations about how we can join the fight to rise against it," Vijayan noted.

Community members who are interested in attending can register by calling the Newcomer Welcome Centre, visiting the Facebook page, or checking out the events calendar on Swift Current Online for the registration link.

"If anybody wants to bring a multi-cultural food they are welcome to bring it, or we have supper provided," said Vijayan. "Please come join us and support us for this fight."
