Swift Current residents can enjoy the convenience of having their favorite dishes delivered right to their doorstep with just a few taps on their smartphones.

Uber Eats officially launched in the city on May 1, the third food delivery app to enter the market following Skip the Dishes and Door Dash.

Kerthana Rang, spokesperson for the delivery platform, is confident that it will be received well by the community.

“We’ve been expanding more rapidly as more Canadians are embracing the convenience in delivery,” she said. “Before we launch in a city, we reach out to restaurants and other merchants; we felt comfortable launching in Swift Current because there was a good number of merchants and restaurants that were interested in being on Uber Eats.”

While residents can have groceries and meals delivered to their houses, Uber itself is not available in the southwest … yet.

Currently there are no plans to bring the ride platform to Swift Current, but Rang recognized the need for safe and affordable transportation everywhere and said they’re always open to discussing possibilities with municipalities.

For now, southwest residents will get a taste of Uber with the delivery version of the franchise.

"It also means that we're creating earning opportunities for people from all walks of life,” she said. “[Those who] want that flexible earning opportunity; they can do two hours after they drop their kids off at school or, six hours if they're a retiree, etc. And so that's an opportunity as well now for people in swift current.”
