Sunday was a fantastic night as Valdy came to town, lighting up the stage with show and song.

Taking place at the Living Sky Casino Event Centre, Valdy was up on stage with his guitar, enchanting the audience with some classic hits of his own and a few covers.

Helping to organize the concert was Helen Arnold, the administrator for the Swift Current Arts Council. She was in amongst the crowd during the show, enjoying tracks like 'Play me a Rock and Roll Song'.

"It was a kind of an intimate evening," said Arnold. "The rapport that he builds with the audience is great, and he's a very easy artist to deal with. He played a whole extra set, had lots of audience participation singing along, and yeah, it was good."

Valdy may not be as familiar to the younger crowd, but that didn't stop the 200-some crowd from showing a few youthful faces.

"Surprisingly enough, lots of younger people tagged along with parents, and we had a few students there as well," said Arnold. "Everybody enjoyed the concert. Even some of the younger ones I talked to had an appreciation or even said, 'Ohh. I know that song!' It was good, a good family event."

While the majority of the crowd was older, that didn't stop them from singing along to their favourite Valdy tracks and even to covers like 'Memphis Rain'.

This was the second to last show for the Swift Current Arts Council, with the season coming to a close on Wednesday as Derina Harvey Band comes to town.

"They are a Celtic rock band, so it'll be an exciting way to end off our concert series," said Arnold. "We heard them; they're energetic and get the crowd moving. We're looking forward to it."

Tickets are currently available on ticketpro while quantities last. The Swift Current Arts Council will also announce next year's schedule during Wednesday night's show.
