An internet challenge that took the world by storm last year is making a comeback for 2023.

The Betty White challenge went viral last year after the beloved actress passed away, in an effort to honour her love of animals.

Joanne Schatkoski, development manager for the Swift Current SPCA, said that this year they are hoping to match last year’s total.

“When Betty White passed away on December 31st of 2021, she was a huge animal advocate,” she explained. “So, somebody online decided that we should do a challenge and donate money to all the shelters around the world. On her birthday, January 17th, it would have been her 100th birthday, the challenge began and last year we had over $6000 donated to the Swift Current SPCA in honor of Betty White.”

The challenge encourages individuals to donate at least five dollars to their local shelter.

Schatkoski added that even a five dollar donation can make a huge difference towards vet bills, pet food, and other supplies.

“The best way would be to E-Transfer treasurer@spcaswiftcurrent.com and put Betty White in the comments, or you can phone the shelter at (306) 773-1806 with your Visa or MasterCard, you can drop by our shelter or by the SPCA bookstore if you want to put cash down, that would be awesome too, or even go to our website and donate there,” she concluded.
