Auston Matthews of the Toronto Maple Leafs, who just signed a fresh 5 year contract to stay with the organization, was doing some signing for us - but not on paper!

The 2016 first overall draft pick sent a signed Leafs jersey with Joel Darling, Executive Producer NHL Special Events with Rogers Sportsnet, to help kick off Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada last week!

We held an auction for this jersey that began last Tuesday, when Ron MacLean was our very special guest-host on Trading Post.

If you missed that epic broadcast, you can watch it here!

The NHL and Rogers Sportsnet directed that whatever the winning bid was, the money was to go to the Swift Current Minor Hockey Association in support of minor hockey in our community.

Bidding was done through the comment's section of our Country Music Radio Facebook Page.

We also invited you to visit us in person and make a bid during our day-long live broadcast from Riverdene Park on Saturday.

Our winner was Rene Alexandre, of Alexandre Electric, here in Swift Current with his bid of $1,000 - taking home this once in a lifetime item!

Rene Alexandre did not have a Facebook profile, and did not visit us in person, so how did he make a bid you might be asking?

An awesome story that involves his son Brody, who plays for Team Saskatchewan, in the sport of baseball, is how he made the bid!

Listen to Rene talk about the path to his winning bid by clicking here!

Nola Smith, from SCMHA, was on hand to receive the cheque for Swift Current minor hockey.

Smith does fantastic work, doing a job that is not easy. She is responsible for scheduling the ice times for minor hockey in Swift Current, from practices to games, and says that this money will help local minor hockey immensely!

Huge thanks to the NHL, the Toronto Maple Leafs, Auston Matthews, Joel Darling, and of course the broadcast legend who is Ron MacLean, for making this generous donation possible!

And, once again, a massive shoutout to Rene Alexandre for winning the Jersey and helping out the Swift Current Minor Hockey Association (and for joining Facebook).

One more of the many stand-out moments from Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada coming to town!
