Fundraiser launched to support family after fatal Highway 7 crash near Harris
A fundraising campaign has been launched to support the family of a couple killed in a collision west of Harris last week, as loved ones cope with the aftermath of the tragedy. RCMP say a 33-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man, both from Saskatoon, died following a two-vehicle crash on Highway 7 on March 26. Several others were injured in the collision, which remains under investigation. In the days since, a GoFundMe campaign organized by a relative has been created to help cover emergency expenses and provide support for the couple’s young child. In the fundraiser, he said he is the only immediate family member in Canada and is now working to manage arrangements and care for the couple’s 18-month-old daughter, Teya, who survived the crash. Aleksiutin said the funds will help cover funeral costs, travel expenses, and potential legal and caregiving needs for the child, as well as care for the family’s dog, which also survived the collision. “All my family is outside Canada,” he wrote. “I want to do my best to deal with things and honour my brother, his partner, and support my niece.” According to RCMP, emergency crews responded to the crash involving a van and an SUV at approximately 1:15 p.m. The victims were declared dead at the scene. A passenger in the van and two individuals in the SUV were taken to hospital with injuries ranging from minor to serious. The fundraiser notes that Aleksiutin expects to travel multiple times between Saskatoon and Montreal in the coming weeks as arrangements are made. Police have not released the names of the deceased. The investigation continues with the assistance of a collision reconstructionist.
