Update: Chorney suffered a lower body injury and was unable to play on Wednesday

The newest Swift Current Bronco has a chance for his first points in the blue and green in his first home game in the southwest Wednesday night.

Forward Carter Chorney was dealt to Swift from Spokane as one of the pieces in the Noah King trade last week.

"I was excited, I know lots of people who've played here and love it. Everyone's been awesome so far, the boys are great. I'm excited to get going," Chorney said before his Broncos debut on the road against the Calgary Hitmen this past Friday.

"I think it's a huge opportunity for me, and a huge opportunity for the team to be rebuilding, and I think we're going to have a good squad here moving forward."

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound Chorney describes himself as a power forward who brings skill to the team, along with a work ethic. Though primarily a winger, the second-round draft pick (39th, 2016) said he'd be happy to take draws for the Broncos.

"For sure I can, I kind of like playing centre, just because I feel like I get my feet moving a little more. Wherever he (head coach Dean Brockman) wants me, I'll go."

Chorney had 8 goals and 12 points in 27 games with Spokane this season, and says he's managed to settle into a bit more of a rhythm.

"I think it's just my confidence, it's just been up. I've been feeling it lately, and I've just been ready to go each game," he shared. "Just working down low in the offensive zone, just kind of being hard on the puck - I think that's a big thing. Just kind of creating turnovers and opportunities for my teammates and myself."

After logging 41 games as a 16-year-old last year as well with the Chiefs, he says its vital experience.

"Being a 16-year-old in the league, it's obviously a huge accomplishment for myself - just getting that experience, it's awesome," explained Chorney. "Then my 17-year-old year coming into the league, kind of knowing it a little better, it was obviously a lot better."

That experience led to plenty of ice time in his first two games as a Bronco - road losses in Calgary and Red Deer this past weekend.

Though, it was a good way to acclimate Chorney to the team, and get his feet under him as soon as possible, according to his new bench boss.

"We got him for a reason. He's a productive player, and that means he's going to have to play," said Brockman before Friday's game in Calgary. "Certainly, we'll try and ease him into certain situations but, for us, throw him into the fire and see what he can do."

Chorney was held off the board on the road, and now looks to a Wednesday night tilt with the Regina Pats.

The Broncos (5-23-1-1) and Pats (8-22-0-1) square off at 7 p.m. at the Innovation Credit Union iPlex tomorrow.
