Beginning their preparations towards the Softball Saskatchewan 'C' Provincial Championships in mid-July, the U14 Swift Current Sonic spent the weekend in Medicine Hat.

Playing for the first time this season, the Sonic went on to finish the tournament with a record of 1-3.

In their first game, the Sonic came out flying to take down an U16 Calgary team 22-6.

However, following their victory a couple of slow starts led to two straight losses.

After falling behind the U14 Lomond Black Diamonds 12-2 after two innings, the Sonic tried to claw back but ultimately fell 12-10.

Then battling the U14 Ponoka Crushers, they were unable to overcome a slow start and dropped an 18-12 decision.

The team finished in a three-way tie for second place at the end of pool play, won the tie-breaker and advanced to the semi-finals.

Taking on the U16 Medicine Hat Thunder in the semi's, the Sonic suffered an 8-1 loss.

The Sonic will continue working towards provincials this weekend with a double-header in Weyburn on Sunday.

The Softball Saskatchewan 'C' Provincial Championships will take place in Biggar from July 9-11.
