While half of Swift Current's tennis courts up and running, the other half about to undergo some major upgrades.

The set of four courts that are adjoined in Riverside Park are set to be resurfaced shortly in preparation for the 2019 Western Canada Summer Games.

Andy Toth, parks manager for the City of Swift Current, said they are hoping construction can begin soon because the project could battle delays such as weather.

"We're hoping that once we can get started, that it's something we can try to get completed within four to six weeks," he explained.

The four courts that are being resurfaced have never been done before and the City has set aside $120,000 for the project.

"What it entails is they'll put a two-inch asphalt lift," Toth said. "The fencing will have to come down in order for the pavers to get in and then we reset the fence and set it all back up... Then we put the acrylic coating surface on that."

Once the four courts in Riverside Park are done being upgraded all eight courts the City maintains will have been redone within the past five years.

While those four courts remain closed until further notice, Swift Current still has four courts open to the public with two at Riverside Park and two at Westside Park.
