An extensive three-phase road rehabilitation project is set to open today in Swift Current.

The stretch of 11th Avenue NW between Chaplin St and North Service Rd will see replaced curbs, realigned intersections, and traffic lights to aid in improvements to drainage, a reduction of congestion, and increased safety.

Phase 1 of the project, beginning today, will see the closure of 11th Ave NW between Chaplin St and South Service Rd. Detours will be in place.

After the completion of Phase 1, the next section to receive upgrades will be from South Service Rd to the on/off ramps from the Trans-Canada Highway on the north side of the overpass. The final stage will run from the on/off ramps to North Service Rd.

The $1.6-million project is being funded through a portion of the City of Swift Current’s allocation from the Federal Gas Tax Fund program.

The City said they anticipate the construction to wrap up in the latter half of July, should weather cooperate.
