The Swift Current 57's opened the 2024 WCBL regular season with a 9-5 victory over the Weyburn Beavers on Saturday at Tom Laing Park.

Swift Current jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning on a two-run double by Casey Prychak, who later came home on a wild pitch. Weyburn got on the board in the bottom half of the inning with Ryan Webster cashing in Ian Heck on an RBI single. The score stayed at 3-1 until the bottom of the sixth when Heck scored an RBI double to cut the Beavers' deficit to 3-2, but the 57's responded in the seventh as Cullen Verville drove in Luis Ayala on an RBI single and scored on an error by the catcher to make it 5-2, and then Swift Current picked up three more runs in the eighth inning as Ayala brought home Marcus Graham with a single and scored along with Prychak on another RBI single from Verville. Quentin Smith scored in the bottom half of the inning for Weyburn before Prychak drove in his third run of the game, bringing in Graham on an RBI single in the ninth inning to wrap up the scoring.

Kenny Jinks struck out six batters over seven innings to get the victory for the 57's, who host the Beavers in their home opener on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. from Mitchell Field.
